Return To The Wreck

a) To give him piece of mind before going back to the wreck, father took a pole and tied a
piece of white cloth to one end of it. He drove it into the ground in a place where it would
be visible from the ship. Mother could use it as a distress signal by taking it down and
firing gun three times in case of danger.

wreck.

a) Jack and Ernest were admiring the mast, the sail and the flag on the boat.
b) The family was taken aback in the woods because what appeared to them from a distance
as forest, was in reality a group of just fourteen trees, the trunks of which seemed to be
held in upright position by arches on each side.
c) The narrator’s wife compares the trees with the large lime tree that was there near the
park in the town that they had lived before.
d) The narrator came up with the idea of making a store house with rocks to safeguard their
provisions and for retreating for safety in case of danger and then building a bridge across
the river which can be used to pass over with family and baggage if need be.

a) The two eldest boys Fritz and Ernest had accompanied the narrator to the sea shore.
Their dog Flora had also gone along with them.
b) Fritz and the narrator were both brave and responded quickly in times of danger. They did
not like to harm animals and looked after them and nurtured them with love and care.
They were animal lovers.
c) The narrator made the ladder by securing the steps with ropes on either side by using
pieces of cane to mount on as he moved up.
d) The narrator’s ascent was most difficult because he had carried his youngest son Franz
on his back.
e) The family journey along the stream was extremely pleasant as the road was sheltered by
shade of large trees and the ground under the feet was very comfortable because of soft
grass.
