The Piper promised the Mayor that he would get rid of the rats from the town of Hamelin. The people were overjoyed when the rats were out of the village. But the Mayor did not pay the Piper the amount of money agreed upon and offered the Piper only 50 guilders. Thus, the Piper threatened the village with drastic consequences if he did not receive his full payment, but the Mayor paid no heed.

In the novel ‘The Swiss Family Robinson’, describe how the Swiss family built the narrow boat to get ashore and what did their first cargo consist of. How did they manage their way to the sea?
The narrow boat was built using eight tubs placed on a long thin plank. The ends were bent upward like the keel of a vessel. The tubs were nailed to the plank and to each other. This boat would be able to perform a short course in calm water. The first cargo consisted of a barrel of gunpowder, a chest of carpenter’s tools, guns, bullets, fishing-rods and sail cloth to make a tent. The Swiss family stepped out bravely into their respective tubs, along with the help of two paddles, they managed to make their way into the sea.

Apoorv was disheartened because of the way his classmates reacted on
hearing the word ‘Ubuntu’. His classmates burst out laughing whenever
Apoorv would say ‘Ubuntu’. Meera said the above words because
people were biased towards the Africans and believed in racism.
According to them Africans were weird human beings.
(b) What effect did the poem have on Holmes’ servant?

The poet’s servant read the first line and started grinning. As he
continued reading the grin grew broader and he started chuckling to
himself. At the fourth line, he started roaring with laughter, he laughed
so hard that his waistband split and he burst five buttons when he read
the fifth line. He went into a laughing fit that seriously alarmed Holmes.
